Top 4 Myths about Destination Weddings

After attending a bridal show last Spring and fielding questions from brides to be, I realized there were some big misconceptions about destination weddings.

Here’s the top four myths about destination weddings I’d like to bust!

1. It has to be on a beach – Yes, for sure the most common destination wedding we book is somewhere tropical on a beach, but it doesn’t have to be. The all inclusive resorts have made it super simple for anyone to consider getting married away, but don’t think you can’t get married anywhere your heart desires.

For something different, why not consider a destination wedding in Ireland, Italy or the South of France? Too far away? What about New Orleans, Napa Valley, or even a winter wedding at a chalet in Colorado?  The possibilities are endless, it just takes a little thinking outside the box!

2. They’re difficult to plan – Being that you are miles away from where your wedding will take place, I can understand why this might be a common belief, but honestly, it can’t be more far from the truth. If you do choose a tropical destination such as one of those all inclusive resorts, it can be as simple as choosing package A, B or C! Of course, you may wish to personalize it a bit, but still, all the bases are covered.

For non-conventional locations, having a destination wedding planner is a must.. we scout out your locations and venues, put together pricing, help you stay on budget and guide you by the hand through all components, it’s what we do!

3. Cookie cutter & impersonal – It is true that those ABC packages can be a little cookie cutter when it comes to the ceremony & reception, but it needn’t be. There are many many options available to personalize both your wedding ceremony, and reception, all you need to do is ask!

Getting married in Mexico or the Caribbean? Why not hire a Mariachi or Steel Drum band to perform during the service? Hawaii? What about a luau or show with fire dancers? Hate the plain white chairs? There’s always options to dress them up with coloured sashes, or better yet, upgrade to tiffany or chair pods, now that’s unique!

For all you crafty brides, there’s a ton of DIY options to personalize your wedding you can find on places like Pinterest, OneWed, Instagram and Items such as save the dates, invitations, wedding programs and welcome bags are easy to create yourself and personalize, should you have the time and desire to do so.

4. Nobody will attend – True, not everyone you invite will attend, but you will have guests. People love weddings, love vacations, and love you.. so if they can swing it, they’ll be there.
